The USDA, ARS, National Animal Disease Center in Ames, IA is searching for a Research Veterinary Medical Officer (Pathology). The incumbent will work in the Ruminant Diseases and Immunology Research Unit (RDIRU) at the National Animal Disease Center in Ames, IA. The mission of RDIRU is to conduct basic and applied research on the pathogenesis, prevention, and diagnosis of viral and bacterial pneumonia and mastitis in ruminants. The incumbent is an independent investigator and a team member for the research projects related to mitigation strategies to control Contagious Bovine Pleuropneumonia (CBPP). Basic research such as stateof-the-art molecular techniques will be used to better understand host defense mechanisms with the goal of finding applied solutions to better treat and prevent CBPP. This research is a component of ARS National Program Action Plan 103 - Animal Health.

The USDA/ARS-National Animal Disease Center (NADC) is a state-of-the-art research facility with BSL-2 and BSL-3 laboratories for livestock and wildlife (bison, elk, white-tailed deer). There is a kinship of veterinary pathologists at NADC and nearby Iowa State University (ISU) which is also in Ames, Iowa along with many other veterinarians and animal health specialists/businesses. The city of Ames, ISU, and nearby Des Moines is culturally vibrant and inviting.
