Position: Research Technician- Assay Development

The Tifton Veterinary Diagnostic and Investigational Laboratory (TVDIL) within the College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Georgia is actively seeking a full- Research Technician- Assay Development. The TVDIL is located in Tifton, Georgia.

Responsibilities Include:

• Conduct research and development of multiplex qPCR, RT-PCR and RT-LAMP isothermal assays from target selection through to laboratory validation and troubleshooting.
• Assist with next generation sequencing (NGS).
• Assist to develop and evaluate nucleic acid purification technologies for a variety of sample matrices.
• Involve in routine lab maintenance activities including ordering, data backing up, BLS2 and PCR hood maintenance, and other activities.

Additional information:  
The position is immediately available and will remain open until filled. This position is grant-funded for up to 1.5 years. Continuation of employment would be dependent upon availability of funds and while probable, it is not guaranteed.

Minimal Qualifications:

• A Bachelor’s degree in molecular biology, infectious diseases, virology, microbiology, chemistry, biochemistry, bioengineering or related science field.
• Experience in basic molecular biology skills, especially in PCR-related experience is required.
• Proficient in written and oral communication skills.

Preferred qualifications and experience:

• MS degree in molecular biology, infectious diseases, virology, microbiology, chemistry, biochemistry, bioengineering or related science field.
• Experience working with NGS and/or nanoparticle-based detection will be a plus.
• Experience in cell culture and immunological techniques such as flow cytometry, ELISA, immunoblotting and immunohistochemistry will be a plus.
